Mornington Peninsula Railways Past and Present

Only two rail lines are still in operation on the Mornington Peninsula, but others used to operate in the mid 20th Century. You can catch a regular service from Frankston which stops at towns like Tyabb, Hastings and Bittern, on the way to Stony Point, where the line ends. This trip takes you from one bay, Port Philip, to another bay, Westernport where the line ends only 70 meters from the water.

Matthew Flinders’ Port Phillip Bay Discovery Trail

Recently, my son was riding his motor bike up winding Arthurs Seat Road on the Mornington Peninsula. The day was perfect, blue skies, bush recently washed by rain and Port Phillip Bay glinting in the background. As he stopped at Murrays Lookout then Chapmans Point he noticed that the further up the road you go the less you see of the bay to the north although views of the southern and eastern coast are spectacular.
